And I wish I was in my bed snoring…

Today is the first Monday of the month which means it’s inventory day. Yosh!

I got up at 3am to head over to Safeway and undergo the tedious amounts of counting required to get a proper inventory record. Thankfully everything wasn’t covered in ice as I had feared. Instead the weather consisted of rain, rain, and even more rain. Inventory went much quicker this time as I’ve become pretty accustomed to how it works. I even managed to find virtually all of the product in our tally sheets which amazed me. They were once sheets of absolute gibberish producing headaches and confusion merely by looking at them but now I’ve started to decipher how they work and have become more familiar with them in the course of my orders.

I’ve come a long way from when I first started. It’s just a little of a year now that I’ve been employed at Safeway. I had only intended to be there for a little bit using it as a stepping stone to launch myself into a “better” field. Or perhaps more accurately, to get my dad off my back. He’d keep waking me up early in the morning, jumping on my bed and demanding that I go get myself a job.

I’ve grown up from that awkward quiet guy who knew absolutely nothing of what he had gotten himself into. Day by day, week by week, my vision kept opening to the larger picture. First all I did was prepare salads and washed dishes; now I make orders for new product, manage the loads, fix problems with schedules, training new employees, solving any crisis that inevitably show up, and pretty much being awesome in general.

But I seriously digress…

After work, Neemund and I made our way to Bothell to for classes. We hazard the dangers cause by the torrential downpours (it wasn’t really that bad) and made it in the nick of time. Unfortunately the rest of our group partners weren’t so lucky. Today was when we were supposed to turn in our group papers and present our group posters to the class for the peer-review which just so happens to be about a third of my grade. One of my group partners had gotten his car smashed up pretty good by a careless driver and the other was going to pick him up coming from Woodenville via state route 522. Normally a 10-15 minute drive, it took him an hour plus to get to campus as 522 was close due to having 5-6 feet of standing water on it.

Which sucked even more so as he had our group poster that was being graded today. Our teacher waited as long as he feasibly could to allow us our opportunity but they had no luck in arriving until the last 5 minutes of class. Ugh.. Then campus security went kicked us off of campus as the school had finally decided to close campus due to the extremely poor weather conditions. So we left having gone all this way for just the one class. I feel like I wasted my time… Why can’t they ever close campus before I get there? Sigh… such is life.

Yep, the traditional rain of Washington has returned.

Are you glad your dad made you get a job?

    Yes, sir.

At first I thought it rather sucked that I was working fulltime and going to school fulltime as well but now in hindsight, I think that was a pretty good move (haha… I was just about to make a post about hindsight mentioning that one rarely says that). Not only do I have the money to help facilitate the things that I enjoy (even though my time to enjoy those things is rather limited), but I’ve also been learning a lot. A lot of the concepts that I learn in my classes were quickly brought into play at my work. I love those sudden moment of “oh… so that’s why…”

Work has also helped me grow as a person much quicker then otherwise for which I’m appreciative of. Despite all the pains and sufferings that I’ve gone through because of this, the experiences I’ve gained have been invaluable.
