Apparently my site was suffering from some horrible error in its coding. After relentlessly trying to purge the file that was causing this turmoil (the file in question being my caching addon), I decided to just get this over and nuke the entire site and load the latest version of Wordpress. Due to the wonders of Wordpress, I was able to upgrade painlessly, keep all my original content and site customizations, AND fix the problem that plagued my site in the first place. Yosh. Thanks Ana for letting me know about this irritating flaw.
