Safeway lists the positions that are currently available by the time clock. As I was clocking in I noticed that the position for Assistant Deli Manger is currently being offered. Seeing as the people in my department do not want that level of responsibility, I could probably acquire it. Except since I’m going to Japan for a month in a couple weeks, I can’t really chase after that opportunity.

I’m pretty sure that the position doesn’t bring an increase in my compensation and it will bring about a TON of responsibilities which I’m not quite sure I’d want to take on. Kinda like Jim from The Office: What I have right now is a job. If I got a promotion then it’d be a career. Of course that’s stretching it a bit but you get the point.

Acquiring this position would however look nice on my resume. Right now I am a business administration major and acquiring the experiences from this would be very beneficial. I have already learned a lot just from being at the level I am already and from watching my manager.

Oh well… I’m thinking that going to Japan for a month is an opportunity of a lifetime and I’m going to continue on the path that I have currently set myself on. Besides… management in Safeway, at least on the store-level, is not something I am interested in the long run.

If the position is still available when I come back, then I think I will look into acquiring it.
